This is what desperation looks like. While I don’t think Research In Motion is quite in the same situation as Palm. I think that if RIM wants to survive, they should at all costs stay away from the consumer market. This video proves that really do not know how to innovate. The BlackBerry OS 6 interface looks and behaves almost exactly like every version of the BlackBerry OS since OS 3. Their problem is that they are trying to build modern features on top of an antiquated base. RIM is at a crossroads, they need to decide now if they are a business company or a consumer company. If it is the former, they need to refocus and stop with experiments like the Storm and the Pearl. If it is the former, they need to follow Palm’s example and just burn down the city and start from scratch. I honestly can’t say I know any consumer BlackBerry user that is truly happy with their phone, and if RIM wants to be the smartphone maker of the masses, they have some seriously stiff competition from the likes of Android OS, the iPhone, Windows Phone 7 (or what ever Microsoft has decided to rename it this week), and WebOS.

But what do I know? I’m just a 17 year old tech geek with a tumblog.
